Mobile Mail.Ru Agent for Symbian Now Supports VKontakte
24 August 2010, Moscow. New version of the Mobile Mail.Ru Agent for Symbian has been released. Its key feature is integrated support of instant messaging with VKontakte social network users.
With the VKontakte support implemented in the new version, users only have to enter their login and password (with all other details defined in the settings) to start an IM session with friends currently on the social network website.
The previous versions of the Mobile Mail.Ru Agent supported Jabber, allowing it to handle IM services such as GTalk, LiveJournal and Ya.Online. Now with VKontakte getting its own Jabber server, Mobile Agent users can chat with their friends from this social network.
The new Mobile Agent provides an overhauled interface of integrated maps and a geolocation service that now returns far more accurate locations of people to devices that do not support GPS. Earlier this only used the IP address information, while now the Wi-Fi networks closest to the user and cellular base stations are also taken into account. In addition, when you use the Agent to post photos on the blog, these automatically show the location of the user at the time they took the picture.
The Mail.Ru Agent is one of the most popular instant messengers on the Russian market. Its monthly audience (the Web Agent excluded) is almost 16 million people, and 4 million people for mobile versions. It should be noted that every second message in the messenger is sent from mobile devices.
Today the Mail.Ru Agent includes both instant messaging functionality for users of the protocol with the same name and free SMS messages, a mail client, voice and video calls. Also note the micro blogging service (integrated to the Moi Mir@Mail.Ru social network and the Blogs@Mail.Ru blog hosting service), the ICQ protocol support, an ability to simultaneously support an unlimited number of accounts, etc. The Mail.Ru Agent is available to users of Windows (including its latest version), and the mobile platforms Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile, iPhone, Android.
